Congratulations Class of 2008

Congrats to all West Hills employees who graduated this past spring semester, there are quite a few.

 

Robert and Jessica Pimentel graduated from CSU, Bakersfield with their master’s degree in social work with a concentration in mental health on June 6, 2008.  They entered as advanced standing students in fall 2006.  Robert is the program coordinator for the WIA Adult and Youth Programs and adjunct faculty at the Coalinga campus.  Jessica is adjunct faculty at the Coalinga campus and teaches the pre-release course at Claremont Custody Center.  The two plan on taking a couple of years off from school to focus on their careers and spend some much needed time with their family.

Two ladies from HR also received their master's degrees.

 

Jana Cox received a master’s degree in human resources from Chapman University. Jana has recently been named the new HR director at the district and was the graduation speaker at her college’s graduation ceremony.

 

Marissa Chavez, hr specialist at the district office, also received a master’s degree in human resources from Chapman University. Job well done ladies!

Brian Boomer graduated from the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) with his bachelor's degree in English on May 17, 2008.  Brian is currently working with the WIA Youth Program at the Coalinga campus.  He plans to go to the University of Montana for a Master of Fine Arts creative writing program next year.

Enjoy Retirement!!

On June 2, 2008, Russell Devine, payroll accountant, retired from West Hills Community College after beginning his career with the district in December 1998. He is currently in Hanford and has plans of moving to Florida to retire.

Welcome to WHCCD!

Please join me in welcoming and congratulating the following West Hills employees.

 

Congratulations to Ms. Dolores Smith, who has been named the new director of financial aid for the West Hills Community College District. Dolores has served as the interim director of financial aid since July 2007.

Also new to the district, Dianne Edwards is an addition to Business Services staff as the new payroll accountant. Diane comes to the district from the City of Coalinga and has replaced Russell Devine who retired on June 2, 2008.

New bundle of joy

I would like to introduce you all to my handsome baby nephew, Joaquin Jackson Torrez, who was born on May 22, 2008 at 2:59 p.m. in Tulare. JJ (that’s what we call him) weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 inches long. He is about two weeks old in the photo below.
