Cal Tincher, WHCC Head Football Coach

West Hills College Coalinga Names New Head Football

Cal Tincher has been named the new head football coach at West Hills College Coalinga. Tincher has served as the offensive coordinator since 2004 but will immediately assume responsibilities of head coach replacing Mark Gritton who was named athletic director in February.

“I am very pleased to announce Cal Tincher as the new head football coach,” said Dr. Willard Lewallen, president of WHCC. “Cal Tincher is very familiar with our football program and athletics department, so I expect he will ease into his new position with no problem.”

Tincher began his career with West Hills in 1999 as the football program’s offensive coordinator and a history instructor. That year West Hills won the Central Valley Conference championship. He left after the 2001 football season and returned to West Hills in 2004 resuming his previous position as offensive coordinator. Along with his current coaching duties, Tincher also teaches history, humanities and physical education classes.

Prior to West Hills, Tincher was the offensive coordinator at College of the Siskiyous in 1996. In 1994, he was a restricted earnings coach at Portland State University. He has also coached at El Camino High School in Sacramento, Sonora High School in Sonora and Chino Valley High School in Chino Valley, Arizona.

Tincher attended College of the Siskiyous, a community college at the base of Mount Shasta, where he played football and graduated in 1986. He accepted a scholarship to Santa Clara University and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 1999, he received a master’s in history from Portland State University and is currently working towards a master’s in kinesiology at Fresno Pacific University.

His wife Hazel is also a West Hills instructor. They have two children and reside in Coalinga. Tincher is from Redding, California. For more information, please contact Gina Harper, athletic secretary, at (559) 934-2452.
