West Hills Community College Conducts Cash for College
Find out ways to pay for school without leaving your neighborhood! Attend a Cash for College Workshop. Receive free one-on-one professional assistance completing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarship applications and admissions forms. Financial aid representatives and advising counselors from West Hills Community College will help jump start your college experience.
California Cash for College is a program of the California Student Aid Commission and regional partners across California. The mission is to provide free, in-person help to low-income and first generation college-going students and families completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form.
Most workshops provide help in Spanish and other languages depending on the needs of communities, and some may provide volunteer income tax assistance for low-income parents.
Cash for College workshops are for all students who plan to go to college or career/technical schools in the fall of 2008 or during the 2008-2009 academic year. The workshop will offer you free, professional help to fill out the financial aid forms that are often daunting for first-time filers. Those who attend a workshop will have the chance to win a $1000 scholarship.
Attend a workshop and fill out an evaluation form and you will be automatically entered to win a $1,000 scholarship—300 in all. Winners must complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a verified Cal Grant GPA by the March 2 Cal Grant deadline, and enroll in a 2-year or 4-year college or university to claim their scholarship. Winners will be randomly selected and announced in late spring, after the Cal Grant March 2 application deadline.
If you are 23 years old, or younger, bring your parent(s) or guardian(s) — and their income and asset information listed below. If your parents can’t go with you to a workshop, you should go anyway and bring your parent's information. If you are a foster youth, or 24 years of age or older you can just bring your own income and asset information.
If you do not have or cannot find any of these items, please go to a workshop anyway so that a counselor can help you get started with the financial aid application process. For more information, contact Dolores Smith at (559) 934-2306 or visit http://www.calgrants.org/ to get a list of dates and times of scheduled workshops near you.
