Welcome to the West Hills Community College District. I hope you will
find a world of opportunity in the pages of our website and at our locations
in Coalinga, Firebaugh and Lemoore.
At the West Hills Community College District
we pride ourselves on serving the needs of a diverse student population.
Whether you’re
19 or 90, we have classes and programs that will interest you. If you
are planning on a career as a mechanic or in medicine, you’re
at the right place. Are you the first in your family to consider college?
We have programs that will help you succeed. In fact, in 2002 the MetLife
Foundation, a nationwide organization with headquarters in New York
, selected West Hills as the small community college nationwide that
best serves the needs of a diverse student population.
There is a long tradition at West Hills. Coalinga
College , now West Hills College Coalinga, started serving students
in the 1930’s
as an extension of Fresno State . I’m proud to say that I earned
my first college degree there.
We made history in 2002 when West Hills College Lemoore opened its
doors as the first new California community college of the 21 st century.
Our North District Center , Firebaugh offers a model of service for
small, rural communities that allows residents to earn an AA degree
close to home.
Naval Air Station, Lemoore is the home to another of our centers.
Serving our neighbors at the base who serve their country as sailors
and marines is an important part of our mission.
West Hills was also one of the first community
colleges in the nation to offer an AA degree entirely online. We understand
the needs of community college students. Time and travel are often
impediments to earning a college education and we’re helping
to overcome those obstacles with distance education.
At West Hills, we believe that all students
can learn and receive a quality education. We have an outstanding
disabled students program (DSPS) staff. One of our students who is
legally blind recently earned a web design certificate with the help
of dedicated instructors and support services that are in place. That
kind of support and service is what makes the West Hills Community
College District unique. I hope that you will take the time to look
over our web pages and then come for a visit. As we say in Spanish, “Mi escuela es su escuela,” – My
school is your school.
With best regards,
Frank Gornick
